UC Master Gardeners unveil new demonstration garden at Pinto Lake
WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV)- In Watsonville, a celebration was held to welcome the community to the new Pinto Lake demonstration and teaching garden.
The garden by UC Master Gardeners, aims to provide hands-on community education for sustainable gardening practices.
Those behind the project say, helping people grow their own food is a priority.
They're hoping it inspires people to create sustainable landscapes that benefit the broader environment.
"We really hope that what they're going to do is become energized with the idea of going back to their own home or their own apartment and planting plants looking for ways that they can actually grow some of their own food, and also think about how they can have a positive impact on the earth,” Rita Bell president of the Master Gardeners board said.
The ribbon cutting ceremony, included demonstrations, a plant sale, children's activities and more.
A few words were said from representative Zoe Lofgren's Field Representative, Supervisor Felipe Hernandez, Santa Cruz County Parks Superintendent Sarah Shea, and UC Cooperative Extension Advisor Mark Bolda.
