Winter storm did not put a damper on local businesses in Pacific Grove

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. (KION-TV): The wet weather didn't seem to have a problem for businesses and tourists in Pacific Grove.

Businesses said this President's Day weekend it brought in more visitors. People were out and about Monday morning, enjoying the holiday weekend, bringing in more foot traffic for businesses.

"We can't just survive on locals," said Liz Jacobs, owner of Wild Fish. "We really need people coming from out of town to support business, so, this weekends are an opportunity for people to come visit pacific grove."

Jacobs, who owns Wild Fish, said the rain this past weekend did not stop people from dining at her restaurant. She said this President's Day weekend was better than she thought

"This year has started with kind of a spring in its step," said Jacobs. "We've got some optimism, whether it's because the stock market is doing well, it's just great news because we've been waiting to get back to normal since the pandemic."

And for people who live in Pacific Grove, like Alison Jones-Pomatto, she said she had company over from Idaho and she said their plans did not get cancelled because of the rain, but what she does worry, is about the wind.

"The kicker with the cypress trees, especially. brittle low-rooted, shallow-rooted trees with big heavy tops and it doesn't take much to come out either by the roots." said Jones-Pomatto.

Jones-Pomatto said although this year's winter storms have not been that bad compared to last years, she was without power for a day because of downed trees.
