One dead and one injured in avalanche at Palisades Tahoe resort, police say

OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. (FOX-35)- UPDATE AT JAN. 10, 2024 AT 2:08 PM- The Placer County Sheriff's Office confirmed that one person is dead and another person is injured after an avalanche took place at the Palisades Tahoe ski resort.
Officers said that no other missing persons have been reported.
Sgt. David Smith of the Placer County Sheriff's Office said that the two people involved in the avalanche were guests at the resort.
"This is a very sad day for my team and everyone here," Palisades Tahoe Resort CEO Dee Byrne said. "The first thing we do in circumstances like this is take care of our people, our guests and our community."
Smith also confirmed that four people were caught in the avalanche including two other people that were buried.
Avalanche closes Palisades Tahoe resort
There was an avalanche at the Palisades Tahoe ski resort on Wednesday morning, officials said.
It's unclear yet if there were any injuries. Ambulances and fire trucks were seen at Palisades Tahoe in video posted to X.
A Palisades Tahoe spokesperson said the slide happened on the Palisades side above the GS gully area above KT-22 at around 9:30 a.m. The KT-22 section had just opened today for the first time this winter
The resort and adjoining Alpine Meadows ski slopes will be closed due to the avalanche.
The mountain's patrol team and other workers are out searching the area.
The Lake Tahoe region received heavy snow today and over the weekend.
