Three emergency centers close for Pajaro evacuees as many return home

PAJARO, Calif. (KION-TV)- The County of Monterey announced Monday that three of the four emergency shelters set up for Pajaro evacuees will be closed beginning Monday at noon.

The following locations will be closed:

  • Compass Church, 1032 S. Main Street, Salinas
  • Salvation Army Contra Costa, 1491 Contra Costa Blvd, Seaside
  • Castroville Recreation Center, 11261 Crane Street, Castroville

Anyone with shelter needs is encouraged to go to the Santa Cruz Fairgrounds in Watsonville located at 2601 E. Lake Avenue. Monterey County says there is plenty of space left for evacuees.

"Services at the Santa Cruz shelter include medical serviceslaundry, showers, and meals," said Monterey County. "County and community agencies are also onsite to let residents know what other resources are available."

People will be given free transportation to the shelter. As of Monday, 349 people are currently at the Watsonville shelter.
