Giannis Antetokounmpo agrees to three-year, $186 million extension with the Milwaukee Bucks: report

(CNN) — Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has reportedly agreed to a three-year, $186 million contract extension with the franchise, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who cites Antetokounmpo’s agent, Alex Saratsis.

“MILWAUKEEEEEEEEE!! Let’s get it!!!!,” Antetokounmpo wrote on Twitter, along with the hashtags ‘Bucks in Six’ and ‘Extended,’ confirming the extension.

CNN has reached out to the Bucks and Antetokounmpo’s representatives for details about the extension.

Earlier this summer, the ‘Greek Freak’ said he would wait until next year before penning a new deal as he would have been eligible to sign a huge, five-year extension in 2024.

Antetokounmpo likely had the Bucks front office somewhat concerned when he admitted in an August interview with the New York Times that he wouldn’t sign a new contract unless he felt the organization was as committed as he was to winning another championship.

In response, the Bucks made a blockbuster trade for All-NBA guard Damian Lillard to firmly cement themselves as one of, if not the favorite to win the title this season.

Antetokounmpo’s new deal – which reportedly includes a player option for a fourth season – keeps the 28-year-old in Wisconsin for the duration of Lillard’s contract, with this pairing now arguably the best duo in the league.

Entering his 11th season in the NBA, Antetokounmpo is already establishing himself as one of basketball’s all-time greats.

The Greece international led the Bucks to the 2021 NBA title – the second in franchise history and the first in 50 years – and is a two-time MVP, Finals MVP and Defensive Player of the Year.

The team enters the new season following a disappointing end to last year which saw the No. 1-seeded Bucks unceremoniously dumped out in the first round of the playoffs by the No. 8 seed Miami Heat, who went on to lose in the NBA Finals against the Denver Nuggets.

The Bucks get their season underway against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night in Milwaukee.
