MIA CASEY
Statement:
- After retiring early, I wanted to give back to my community. I became an advocate, engaging with local leaders and speaking on issues. I co-founded and managed an all-volunteer nonprofit with a mission of strengthening our local economy–working to educate and empower residents around local issues, provide support for local businesses and share information on new business projects.
- Becoming your Mayor was a natural next step to this work. During these first 18 months as your Mayor, I have been working closely with City Council and staff to improve efficiency at City Hall, doing contract reviews, improving procedures, and building up staffing which had been at a 30% vacancy rate. I have been focused on strategic planning, and going after funding to continue to improve our infrastructure and roads. We have a number of initiatives underway, and if reelected, I plan to continue working on my top priorities including:
- Advocating with state leaders to reduce mandated housing numbers
- Securing grants to continue road & infrastructure improvements
- Developing economic pathways for new jobs & revenue
- Continuing to improve quality of life & safety in Hollister
- My broad experience in the private, public and nonprofit sectors has served well in leading us forward. I am a consensus builder and have been working collaboratively with the leaders of San Juan Bautista City Council and the County Board of Supervisors, to tackle big challenges facing our community. With proactive planning, we can prepare for the future, while balancing and preserving our rural heritage for our children and grandchildren. With your support, we can work together to move Hollister in a better direction.
