Ten of the 58 California counties flipped from blue to red in the 2024 election

CENTRAL COAST, Calif. (KION-TV) -- California is slowly seeping from blue to red, according to the most recent numbers from the Secretary of State's Office.

Numbers from the 2020 presidential election to this year, shows that the state met with several counties switching sides; 10 out of 58, according to the Secretary of State.

Although the Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito tri-counties--along with almost all other California coastal counties--did not flip from blue to red, neighboring jurisdictions did.

Stanislaus, Merced and Fresno counties, all voting democratic in the 2020 presidential election, flipped to red in this year's presidential election.

A handful of other counties turned from blue to red this year as well, and although final election numbers won't be tallied until December 13, the state (as of November 8) saw a dip in democratic votes overall.

According to the Secretary of State, in 2020 there were 63.5% of voters for Biden and 34.3% of voters for Trump in California, whereas in 2024, 57.6% of voters turned out for Harris and 39.8% of voters for Trump so far.

A breakdown of Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties shows that as of early November, Monterey County went from 69.5% of voters for Biden in 2020 and 64.5% for Harris in 2024. Twenty-eight percent of voters in the county turned out for Tump in 2020, while 33.1% of voters did this year so far.

In Santa Cruz County, 78.9% of voters elected Biden in 2020 with 75.2% for Harris in 2024. People who voted for Trump accounted for 18.6% of the population in 2020 and 21.6% so far in 2024.

San Benito County saw a shift in voters as well. There were 61.1% of voters who turned out for Biden in 2020, and 53.7% of voters who showed up for Harris this year so far. Trump saw 36.7% of voters turn up at the polls in 2020, and an increase to 44.1% in 2024.
