How to vote in the 2020 elections

CENTRAL COAST, Calif. (KION) California primary elections are coming up on March 3, and this is how Central Coast residents can vote.

Check your voter registration status here.

You can register to vote here. To register online, you must have a signature on file with the DMV.

Voter registration forms are also available at the Monterey County Elections Department located at 1441 Schilling Place- North Building in Salinas, but also at several libraries, post offices, city and county offices, the DMV and other public buildings.

In San Benito County, voter registration cards are available at the San Benito County Clerk office, the Hollister Post Office, the San Juan Bautista Post Office, the Tres Pinos Post Office, San Benito County One-Stop Career Center, San Benito County Health & Human Services Department, San Benito County Behavioral Health, WIC- San Benito Health Foundation, County of San Benito Health & Human Services Agency- Public Health Division, the DMV and the San Benito County Free Library.

In Santa Cruz County, voter registration cards are available at the Santa Cruz County Elections Office on Ocean Street in Santa Cruz, but also at Post Offices, public libraries, the DMV and many government offices. You can also have a card mailed to you by calling 831-454-2060 or 866-282-5900.

To be eligible to vote in California, you must be a United States citizen, a resident of California, at least 18 years of age or older on Election Day, not currently in prison or on parole for a felony conviction and not currently found to be mentally incompetent by a court of law. If your address, signature, name or party preference has changed, you will need to re-register online or fill out a new registration forms.

16- and 17-year-olds can pre-register to vote here. They will have to wait until they are 18 to vote, but they will automatically be registered when they reach that age if they have pre-registered.
