MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) - The Cold Case Project of Monterey County gave an update on new grants providing funding for future cases.

The first grants announced will support the identification of two sets of human remains and one unsolved homicide in Monterey County.

The Cold Case Project is a grant-making nonprofit funding forensic testing to solve local cold cases.

The project recently identified remains of a man who was missing for 24 years and unidentified for another 4 years.

"We are hoping that the fact that we were able to put a name to this victim has brought some peace, no only to his family but to our community. It's really essential when we get unidentified human remains that we do find who these people are," said Ann Kern of the Cold Case Project.

Donations to the cold case project can be made to the Community Foundation of Monterey County.
