Two drivers severely injured after head-on collision on Highway 9

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif (KION-TV) - Two drivers are being treated for serious injuries following a head-on collision on Highway 9 Tuesday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened south of California Drive as a 66-year-old woman from Boulder Creek driving a white Lexus collided with a 46-year-old male from Felton driving a black Lexus.

For reasons that are still under investigation, both drivers collided head-on, suffering major injuries. Both were wearing their seatbelt at the time and were taken to Valley Medical Center for treatment.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, with alcohol or drugs not considered a factor.
