Community Health Survey following the Moss Landing Battery Fire results released
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) - The results from a community health survey following the events of the Moss Landing Battery Fire have been released.
According to the results, 64.6 percent of responders lived or worked in Monterey County
1,275 responders, or 82.8 percent, reported experiencing at least one symptom from the fire, particularly those living closest to the site of the January 18 fire.
286 respondents sought care for said symptoms, with a majority visiting or calling their primary care physician.
62.6 percent of responders stated they were specifically concerned about their health while also noting the environmental and health impacts.
When it came to learning about the fire itself, most reported that they heard about it from elsewhere rather than from Monterey or Santa Cruz's county alert systems.
"Regarding emergency services communications, respondents learned about the incident through various sources with most receiving information from the news, through social media, and through family and friends. In addition, many individuals reported not receiving notifications through the counties alert systems." Chief Health Officer Dr. Edward Moreno said.
Other results include that nearly all responses were completed in English, 286 respondents consulted their primary care provider, and a majority of the respondents lived closest to the fire.
