New cameras installed in hopes of curbing illegal dumping

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Monterey County Environmental Health announced that their Illegal Dumping Camera project is now running in six locations.

Six cameras have been installed in parts of the county that are known spots for illegal dumping.

The program will curb illegal dumping in the county and protect public and private land. This includes stopping the dumping of trash, furniture, and hazardous materials.

As for the cameras, they are solar-powered cameras equipped with AI technology to identify cars and their drivers.

A citation for the first offense would be a fine of $2,500, the second $5,000, and the third at $10,000.
