Greenhouse Fire at Plant Nursery in Royal Oaks Area
ROYAL OAKS, Calif. (KION-TV) - A structure fire broke out at a plant nursery in the Royal Oaks area around 9:28 p.m. on Wednesday, fire crews on scene saying that two greenhouses were on fire with the potential to spread to another eight greenhouses.
As of 11:10 on Wednesday night, crews were still working to extinguish the fire and getting the smoke out of the buildings, as they were able to contain the flames to those initial two greenhouses. North county fire being assisted on scene by Cal Fire BEU, Watsonville Fire, and Aromas Tri-County Fire. A water tender was also called out to the scene, which can hold up to 2,500 gallons of water, this was needed because the area is non-hydranted, meaning that fire hydrants are not at every street corner.
Firefighters say that businesses in the area were closed when they arrived and no one was in the burning greenhouses. Neighbors were the ones who saw the smoke and called for fire services. PG&E also out at the scene on Wednesday night, checking on electrical systems and powerlines to ensure they weren't affected by the flames.
The cause of this fire is still under investigation as fire crews finish containing the flames.
