The Main Lodge at Pebble Beach is in the midst of a makeover
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The iconic Pebble Beach Resort's main Lodge is getting a makeover for the first time in almost 30 years.
Right after the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, construction began on The Lodge at Pebble Beach.
“We embarked on an extensive renovation project to The Lodge main building. This includes the renovation of The Tap Room, Stillwater Bar & Grill, our meeting space, refreshing all of the main Lodge building," COO and EVP of Pebble Beach Company Caroline MacDonald said.
While the construction continues, things around the Pebble Beach Resorts will look different.
“We have The Tap Room now relocated to Fairway One. We doubled in size. We have a beautiful outdoor space for visitors to come and dine. We're also opening up the Gallery Cafe for dinner starting Thursday" MacDonald.
The renovation will take about 10 months in total. Parts of the main Lodge and restaurants will be open this summer.
"We'll reopen The Bench restaurant early June. After that, the main Lodge building will reopen in early August, ready for Concours Sunday. The Taproom will open in mid-October, and then we’ll cap it off with a grand opening of Stillwater Bar & Grill in November," MacDonald said.
Caroline explained why the company chose now in 2025 to complete the large-scale renovation.
“There's really never a good time. The last renovation to the main Lodge was in 1996 and this was to Stillwater Bar & Grill. We thought let's just get it done and so we started this year after AT&T and we'll finish up this fall." MacDonald said.
As for what to expect from the new changes, MacDonald said the resorts are excited about the new and improved The Tap Room.
“We'll have a private dining room in the back that will add some additional seating, but the room will continue to have the same dark woods and green tones and memorabilia that our customers love," MacDonald said. "And then when you go into Stillwater Bar & Grill, all of the seats will have spectacular ocean views.”
Guests staying at the resort are notified about the construction before booking. However, not all visitors to the Monterey Peninsula stay at the resorts.
Alan Taylor came from Sydney, Australia, and is staying in Carmel. He was unaware of the construction.
“To come over to the States, came to Pebble Beach to feel the experience to look at the clubhouse, hopefully get into the clubhouse. [I was] surprised today when we part of the car to find that it's totally under construction. So I guess that means we have to come back another time to have that experience," Taylor said.
But if someone still makes their way to the popular tourist spot, there is plenty to do.
“While we're under renovation, our golf, our clubs, and all of the other restaurants at The Lodge, as well as The Inn at Spanish Bay remain open. Also open is all of our retail area and we welcome visitors throughout the whole renovation timeline," MacDonald said.
MacDonald also said the main Lodge is not the only renovation project on the property.
Every hotel room is being redone in phases and will be open within the next few years.
