Upcoming town hall focuses on wildfire preparedness
MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) -- As the fire season becomes a fire year, an upcoming town hall will focus on wildfire preparedness in Monterey next Thursday.
The Wildfire Ready Monterey Town Hall will have a panel discussion on wildfire preparedness from experts from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Monterey Conference Center with those attending encouraged to submit questions about the topic.
This includes submitting questions on topics such as creating a defensible space, tree regulations, fire-safe building materials and evacuation plans.
"The event is a great opportunity for residents to ask questions and hear from expert panelists about what community partner agencies are doing to reduce fire risk, prepare for wildfires, and aims to ease potential anxiety caused by the recent wildfire storms in Los Angeles County," Monterey City Manager Hans Uslar said in a press release.
Before the discussion, booths from community partners from the City of Monterey's Fire, Police, Forestry, and Building Safety staff along with representatives from PG&E, CAL FIRE, SPCA of Monterey County and more.
Break-out discussions on other related topics and refreshments are also planned for the event.
The Wildfire Ready Monterey Town Hall will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Monterey Conference Center, Serra Ballroom at One Portola Plaza.
Residents from Monterey, Pacific Grove and Carmel are encouraged to attend.
It is free for everyone with validated parking in the Downtown East and West Parking Garages.
