Salinas Police in standoff with suspected burglar inside business

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV)-- The Salinas Police Department confirmed Saturday officers are in a standoff with at least one burglary suspect at a business on the city's north side.

Police said the standoff began late Friday night and continued into the morning hours.

The department's SWAT team has been called to the business, which is on North Main Street near the U.S. Bank and Chik Fil A, according to police. Police also clarified this is not an active bank robbery.

Police said civilian drones have been sent to the area because they do not want to compromise officers' positions.

People are asked to avoid the area if possible while the investigation continues.
