Large water main break at Fremont and Camino El Estero streets Monday

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The City of Monterey confirmed Monday that there was a large water main break at Fremont Street and Camino El Estero.

They said that an urgent notification from California American Water was issued at approximately 3 p.m. stating that "customers may experience low pressure, discolored water or could have no water."

One KION viewer reported having no access to water in the area.

The City of Monterey said that the eastbound lane of Fremont will remain open but the westbound lane will be closed for approximately six to eight hours while crews work to fix the break.

Monterey Fire and Police are on scene. CalAm Notice is showing an estimated time of repair being about 5 p.m., and they urge drivers to avoid the area.

This is a developing story.
