15-year-old cited after leading Monterey County deputies on a chase throughout the county

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The Monterey County Sheriff's Office said a 15-year-old was cited after leading deputies on a chase throughout the county late Saturday night.

Investigators said they were conducting a DUI enforcement and attempted to stop a grey Ford Mustang for speeding on Highway 101 near John Street.

The driver was able to escape after driving 70 mph on surface street and reaching more than 100 mph on the highway, according to deputies. The pursuit was called off due to public safety concerns.

The sheriff's office said the vehicle was identified and the driver was arrested the next day. The juvenile male was cited on charges related to the chase and released to a parent, investigators said.
