Salinas Police officer expected to survive after early morning crash, police say

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Salinas Police confirm to KION the officer involved in an overnight collision is expected to survive.

According to police, the crash happened around 12:30 a.m. early Saturday morning.

Officers were dispatched to what was only described as a "high priority call" requiring the use of lights and sirens.

Police say while one of the officers responding to the call was on the way to the location, it was involved in a crash at the intersection of Williams Road and East Market Street.

Photos of the crash show a large amount of debris in the area with the police vehicle smashed up and overturned with the other vehicle suffering damage to its front end.

The officer was transported to the hospital and the occupants of the other vehicle were treated at the scene and released.

No additional information was provided by police.
