KING CITY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- King City Police announced Thursday that they discovered and arrested a suspect in a King City shooting from September 29, 2024.

They said that on Thursday, detectives served a search warrant at a home in the 200 block of Tom Rogers Circle in Greenfield to find and seize many alleged pieces of evidence from 22-year-old Adrian Vasquez Martinez of Greenfield.

Detectives say that they arrested and booked Martinez into Monterey County Jail on charges of attempted murder with gang enhancements, discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury and shooting into an inhabited dwelling.

Days following the initial 2024 shooting, police say that they identified 19-year-old Melinda Mendoza of King City as another participant in the shooting.

Mendoza was arrested on October 2, 2024 and is currently being housed in Monterey County Jail awaiting trial on multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon and attempted homicide, according to police.

The original crime took place when police say they responded to a home in the 600 block of Sycamore Street to reports of shots fired. There, they found the home had been in the middle of a backyard party when two suspects entered the backyard.

One of the two suspects, according to police, was armed with a handgun and then opened fire on the partygoers. They said that two male teens ages 16 and 18 sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

The investigation is ongoing.
