Monterey Bay F.C. continues quest to clinch first playoff appearance in team history

SEASIDE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Monterey Bay F.C. was unable to get the one goal they needed against the Las Vegas Lights to clinch a win, making their quest for a spot in the USL Championship postseason more difficult.

The Crisp and Kelp are winless in the last nine matches as a result.

Within that same timeframe they've scored six goals while giving up 13 goals.

The good news is they were able to force a tie in four of the nine match-ups, allowing them to still be alive in the playoff hunt.

Despite ranking 11th in the USL's West, they're just two points out of a playoff spot, with Saturday's match against Orange County expected to be one of the most pivotal in this final stretch.

Orange County is in 8th place with 31 points in the standings, holding onto that last playoff spot with FC Tulsa and San Antonio FC also looming with the same amount of points.

But the Orange County match for Monterey Bay F.C. isn't the only hurdle in the way: F.C. is also facing Sacramento, Colorado Springs and Phoenix as the season comes to a close, with another potentially huge match against FC Tulsa on the horizon.

Monterey Bay F.C. kicks off their final stretch by hosting Orange County SC September 21 at 7 p.m. at Cardinale Stadium.
