Salinas PD: Multiple arrests, citations and vehicles towed after reports of illegal vehicle side show activities overnight

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Multiple illegal sideshows activity that happened on Saturday night sparked concerns about people's safety.

"It can happen in San Jose, San Francisco, I don't care," said Robert Dennehy, who lives in Salinas, "This is Salinas, we're a little town, city, this should not happen."

Salinas police said one person was arrested, two vehicles towed and two citations issued.

"It's illegal to be a spectator for these sideshows, you can be cited to be spectating, participating and they're very dangerous," said Salinas Police Sergeant Gerardo Magaña, "You're destroying your car, city property, and you're putting a lot of people at risk."

Salinas Police said people who planned the event or watched it unfold could face consequences. This includes having their cars towed, getting issued a citation or being placed under arrest.

Salinas Police said the multiple sideshows that took place on Saturday were planned, and they said they're still investigating and will hold those responsible.

And for Robert, he said he plans on doing something so another illegal side show won't happen in his neighborhood.

"I'm probably going to city hall tomorrow and I'm going to talk to who I talk to, and then i'll go to police because this needs to stop." said Dennehy.

Salinas Police said multiple people were arrested, vehicles towed and citations were issued after illegal side show activity in the city overnight.

Police say the incidents happened at four different locations throughout the night.

Investigators said the intersections that were taken over included Del Monte Avenue and Sanborn Road, Russell Road and Van Buren Avenue, East Market and Towt Street plus West Alisal Street and Ambrose Drive.

Police said they also have drone footage of the incidents.

No additional information was provided by police in reference to the number of arrests, vehicles impounded and citations issued.
