Shelter-in-place in Seaside lifted after police arrest suspect following standoff
SEASIDE, Calif. (KION) - Seaside Police arrested a man after a standoff Wednesday night leading to a shelter-in-place order.
The incident took place near the intersection of Contra Costa Street and Amador Avenue in Seaside. Police said the suspect surrendered peacefully and no one was hurt in the incident.
According to Seaside Police, around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday they received a call of someone trying to enter a house possibly seen with a firearm. They add he reportedly tried to kill someone. By the time officers arrived to the scene that suspect already left.
Officers then tracked the suspect to the 500-block of Amador Avenue where officials said he refused to exit a shed. Seaside Police utilized drones to scope out the scene.
Thankfully, they were able to negotiate with him to come out peacefully and he is now in custody.
“The suspect also had a felony warrant as well. That was another reason why we were looking for him. It had nothing to do with the incident today. It was a previous incident," Seaside Police Department Matthew Doza said. "There was an arrest warrant for him a felony warrant policies that happened today which was for criminal threats,"
Commander Doza adds they haven’t found any firearms, but they are still investigating whether or not the suspect was armed at any point
That shelter-in-place order was dropped just after 8:30 Wednesday evening Officials said there is no risk to public safety.
