BIG SUR, CALIF. (KION-TV)- Monterey CHP is investigating a crash that left one person dead near Big Sur last Saturday.

According to officials, at around 5:18 P.M, a Ford F150 with two people was traveling northbound on Highway 1 at the Seberanes Canyon Trailhead. The people in the truck have been identified as Doris Guadalupe Hernandez Lucha and Beatriz Z. Garcia from Seaside.

For reasons still under investigation, a woman crossed from the west shoulder onto the northbound lane of Highway 1 in front of the Ford. The driver, Hernandez Lucha, tried to avoid her, but was unable to. The woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Lucha and Garcia didn't receive any injuries as a result of this crash. Lucha remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation.

Officials don't believe alcohol and/or drugs are a factor in the crash. The identification of the pedestrian will be provided by the Monterey County Coroner’s Office when the next of kin has been notified.
