Carmel Valley structure fire leaves one person, pets displaced

CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- A structure fire early Thursday morning in the Carmel Valley area has left one person and their pets displaced, according to Monterey County Regional Fire.

Firefighters responded to a single-family residence at Via Contenta around 4 a.m. on Thursday.

The home suffered severe damage but the one person inside was able to escape in time along with their pets.

Monterey County Regional Fire said the individual suffered a minor injury during their escape.

Firefighters said the individual's smoke alarms were able to detect the smoke early enough to allow the person to escape, otherwise Monterey County Regional Fire said this could have ended in further tragedy.

Firefighters said the Red Cross is helping the displaced individual and their pets.
