Multiple fire agencies battle brush fire burning along Highway 101 near Salinas

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Salinas and North Monterey County Regional Fire agencies were busy putting out a fire that sparked along Highway 101 near Salinas.

The fire started just after noon on southbound Highway 101 near Airport Boulevard.

Firefighters at the scene said they're not sure what exactly caused the fire but believe some homeless were living in the area.

No injuries were reported.

Traffic slowed down as crews were putting out the fire and smoke could be seen flowing over Highway 101 on Sunday afternoon.

The fire was visible from the KION News station off Moffett Street, with the KION Toro and Salinas cam in view of the smoke along the highway.
