Evacuations ordered in San Martin while Cal Fire battles Columbet Fire
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- UPDATE - June 27, 2024 10:16 P.M. - CAL FIRE SCU said people who have been evacuated are now being allowed to return home. Officials adds firefighters will remain at the scene for extensive mop up.
UPDATE - June 27, 2024 9 P.M. - According to CAL FIRE SCU, forward progress on the Columbet Fire has stopped. The fire remains at five acres and 30% containment.
According to fire officials on the scene, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office evacuated eight homes, which they say will remain evacuated until all hazards are mitigated.
Firefighter were dispatched around 5:50 p.m. according to CAL FIRE and the cause remains under investigation.
ORIGINAL - June 27, 2024 7:42 P.M. - CAL FIRE SCU confirms crews are battling a five acre fire that's forced homes to evacuate in the San Martin area on Thursday night.
Cal Fire said the fire is burning along Columbet Avenue and East Middle Avenue in the Santa Clara County town between Morgan Hill and Gilroy.
Cal Fire confirmed homes are being threatened along with other structures.
Cal Fire SCU says containment is at 30% as of 7:40 p.m.
The fire is being referred to as the Columbet Fire.
