Trager nets franchise’s 100th goal in Monterey Bay’s 2-1 win over Oakland
SEASIDE, Calif. (KION) - Monterey Bay F.C. (6-7-4, 22 points) took down its rival Oakland Roots (7-8-2, 23 points) 2-1 during Fan Fest at Cardinale Stadium. The statement win also brought with it a milestone moment.
In the 30th minute of the match, Walmer Martinez brought the ball down the left sideline, well into Oakland territory. Once in the box, Martinez played a ball across the middle, which Tristan Trager headed home.
Trager's goal marked the 100th regular season goal in Monterey Bay F.C. franchise history. He was assisted by Martinez who netted the club's first-ever goal. Head Coach Frank Yallop said it was a proud moment.
"It's unbelievable," Yallop said. "I've been here for all of them. It's a pretty cool number to get to, so I'm excited about that."
Only three minutes later, Jesús "Chuy" Enriquez connected with Alex Dixon for goal number 101. It doubled the side's lead and proved to be the match-winner.
The Union held onto that lead until the final whistle, earning three points to jump to fourth in the Western Conference.
Monterey Bay F.C. will now hit the road for two matches. First, the Union will face Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Weidner Field on July 29. After that, the Crisp and Kelp will travel to Highmark Stadium where they will face Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on July 6.
