One person dies in two car accident in San Benito County

SAN BENITO COUNTY, CALIF. (KION-TV)- CHP Hollister-Gilroy confirms one person has died after a two car collision in San Benito County Wednesday morning.

At around 3:55 a.m., officers were dispatched to a two vehicle accident that happened on Shore Road, just east of Lake Road. During the initial investigation, officers learned that a 20 year old man was driving east on Shore Road in his Toyota Camry at an unknown speed. Meanwhile, 67 year old Delbert Perry was driving westbound on Shore Road at around 55 miles per hour.

The crash happened when the 20 year old crossed over the double yellow lines and into the path of Perry, resulting in a head on collision. Emergency crews quickly arrived to the scene to assess the injuries of both men.

The 20 year old was taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital with the intention to move him to Natividad Hospital. However the male succumbed to his injuries and died en route to the hospital. Delbert was taken to Natividad Hospital with only minor injuries.

According to officials, drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
