San Jose man sentenced to 10 years in prison for human trafficking in Salinas
SALINAS, CALIF. (KION-TV)- A San Jose man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison according to the Monterey County District Attorney's Office.
According to officials, 43-year-old Courtney Trendon Davenport was charged with human trafficking of an adult for commercial sex purposes and one count of domestic violence.
On February 23, 2023 at around 8:10 p.m., Salinas Police received a call from Jane Doe, an adult from Wisconsin, from a restaurant on Kern Street. When officers arrived, Doe reported that her "boyfriend", Davenport, had battered her for refusing to leave their motel room to engage in commercial sex work for his financial benefit. Because of her refusal, Davenport hit her on the eye with his elbow. That's when Doe left and called 911.
As Jane Doe was talking to officers, Davenport came from a restaurant close by and started yelling. Davenport was detained and found to have a knife in his possession.
After interviews, reviewing the motel room and checking both parties phones, evidence showed that Davenport had been forcing Jane Doe to engage in sex acts for his financial gain. This included forcing Jane Doe to follow a set of strict rules that controlled her movements through tracking, her ability to provide for her every day needs through finances, and threats of violence and actual violence when she refused.
Davenport also controlled what sex acts Doe would perform, whom she would perform them for, how much she had to charge, and how much she had to make each day before she was allowed to go back to their motel room.
On top of his prison sentence, Davenport must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
