Salinas Police sort out multiple 911 call situation
SALINAS, CALIF. (KION-TV)- Salinas Police arrested two people after sorting out a number of 911 calls that stemmed from a fight last Friday.
At around 2 p.m., officers responded to a report of battery to a juvenile as he was walking home from Alisal High School. As the juvenile was walking, another male juvenile got out of a grey Dodge Charger when a fight ensued. Officers were able to get the license plate of the Charger the juvenile got out of.
About 15 minutes later, the registered owner of the Charger called 911 to report they were the victim of a hit and run. While that call came in, 911 received multiple calls of a grey Charger chasing a Honda minivan. The 911 calls continued to come in, with one reporting of a stabbing and shooting in the area of Van Buren St and Jackson St.
When officers arrived, they contacted the owner of the Charger and seen significant damage to the passenger side of the vehicle. The minivan was found abandoned at San Juan Grade Rd with damage and 11 9mm casings near by.
Eventually, officers were able to find the males who called in about the stabbing. One of them had a small cut to his left arm and chest. He was taken to Natividad Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
After sorting through all of the 911 calls and incidents related to the called, officers learned the Charger began chasing the minivan around Closter Park. At some point during the chase, the minivan struck several parked vehicles while trying to get away. Later in the chase, the Charger purposely sideswipped the minivan.
The chase continued until the minivan broke down where officers found it abandoned. Two males and three females got out of the Charger and surrounded the minivan with knives, breaking out the drivers window. One of the suspects from the Charger cut the driver of the minivan with a knife.
As the males in the minivan got out and ran away, someone from the minivan pulled out a firearm and shot at the Charger as it drove away. No one was hit during the shooting.
The driver and registered owner of the Charger was booked into the Monterey County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon. One person from the minivan was booked for an unrelated armed robbery he was already wanted for.
The shooting and other people involved are still under investigation. Officials say the incident is being investigated as gang related.
