Three suspects arrested on Highway 17 after allegedly trying to break into cars in Watsonville, CHP says
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV)- The California Highway Patrol arrested three suspects on Highway 17 early Wednesday morning after they tried to break into multiple cars in Watsonville.
CHP Santa Cruz said on social media that they were informed about a silver sedan breaking into cars in Watsonville. Officers were in the area of Northbound Highway 1 near Freedom Boulevard when they found a vehicle that matched the description.
Officers said they tried to initiate a traffic stop on a Infiniti G35 which was stolen but the vehicle failed to yield which a pursuit was started.
The CHP was able to locate the vehicle and positioned themselves on Northbound Highway 17 near Mount Hermon Road.
Officers said deployed a spike strip which was successful and the Infinti sustained a flat tire and crashed into the center median.
The Infiniti came to a stop on Highway 1 north of Summit Road. Officers said that the car caught on fire and they were able to get the three people out of the car.
Multiple officers put out the vehicle fire while a local fire department made their way to the scene.
According to the California Highway Patrol, all three people were arrested and booked on multiple felony charges.
