Deputies identify victim who died in stabbing at George Washington Grove area
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) -- UPDATE ON APRIL 23, 2024 AT 5:12 PM- The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office identified a 44-year-old man who died in a stabbing on Friday morning.
A spokesperson with the Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 44-year-old Todd Kolibas.
The incident occurred on Friday morning when 31-year-old Joseph Young allegedly stabbed and killed Kolibas during a physical altercation.
Santa Cruz Police said that Young was arrested on Friday.
Young made his first court appearance on Tuesday where he was appointed a public defender. According to the Santa Cruz County Superior Court, Young is facing multiple charges including murder, enhancements for use of a deadly weapon and felony violations.
Young will be back in court on a continued arraignment on May 28.

UPDATE ON APRIL 29, 2024 AT 12:30 PM- Santa Cruz Police confirmed to KION that they have arrested a 31-year-old Santa Cruz man who is accused of stabbing a man in the George Washington Grove area on Friday afternoon.
Santa Cruz Police Deputy Chief Jon Bush said that Joseph Young of Santa Cruz was arrested on Friday evening.
The incident took place when Santa Cruz Police got a report that a man was stabbed on the 1200 block of Branciforte Drive.
Investigators said the victim and other individuals were involved in a physical altercation prior to the stabbing.
The victim died from his injuries at a local trauma center, per police.
Young has been booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on murder charges and his bail has been set at $1,000,001.00.
Man killed after stabbing at George Washington Grove area of Santa Cruz, according to police
Santa Cruz Police is investigating its second homicide of the year after a stabbing at the 1200 block of Branciforte Drive on Friday afternoon.
According to police, a man was reportedly stabbed in the George Washington Grove area.
Investigators said the man and some other individuals were involved in a physical altercation prior to the incident.
Police said all involved knew each other and there's no ongoing threat to public safety.
A motive is unknown and the victim's identity hasn't been provided at this time.
