Hollister Police Animal Care and Services arrest one person for animal cruelty & controlled substance

HOLLISTER, CALIF. (KION-TV)- The Hollister Police Animal Care and Services division arrested one person associated with a kennel group for animal cruelty and possession of a controlled substance.

Officers received a report of a local resident that was offering ear cropping, artificial insemination, and other services to local dog owners. Officers looked into the allegations after receiving the report.

On Monday April 15th, Hollister Police Animal Care and Services and Hollister Police served a search warrant at a home located in the 200 block of Bravada Circle. When officers arrived, they found animals without food or water and housed with built up feces. Further investigation found that 34-year-old Luis Giovanni Perez, a person associated with HollisterBullies831, was the owner of the property.

Animal Control Officers retrieved 17 dogs from the property and immediately took them to a local vet hospital. According to the veterinarian, the animals didn't appear to be in any immediate distress and were released to their respective owners later that day.

Perez was arrested for felony animal cruelty and possession of a schedule 3 controlled substance that's used as an anesthetic during surgery procedures.
