Watsonville man dies after car crashes into a street light pole, police say

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV)- Watsonville Police confirmed that a 54-year-old Watsonville man died after his car crashed into a street light pole on Wednesday evening.

Investigators said the crash happened at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Rodriguez Street around 5 p.m.

Police said the man crashed head-on into the street light pole. The man was transported to a local trauma center for his injuries. Police said the Monterey County Coroner's Office notified them that the man passed away about an hour later.

Watsonville Police said they will be conducting a follow-up investigation at Riverside Drive and Rodriguez Street from 6 a.m. to noon on Saturday afternoon.

Officers said that westbound Riverside Drive between Main Street and First Street will be closed. Police said detours will be in place.
