Arik Armstead signs 3-year, $51 million deal with Jacksonville Jaguars

Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE, FL, (KION-TV)- A longtime staple of the 49ers defense will now be heading to Duval County.

Former 49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead signed a three year deal worth $51 million with the Jacksonville Jaguars according to multiple league sources.

Armstead will be reuniting with Jaguars General Manager Trent Baalke who was the general manager for the 49ers when Armstead was drafted 17th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft.

The 49ers did offer a pay cut to Armstead but the two sides could come up with a deal. The Athletic reported the 49ers and Houston Texans did have a trade in place that would have sent Armstead to the Texans in exchange for defensive tackle Maliek Collins.

Last season, Armstead had 27 tackles and five sacks in 12 regular season games. He had 11 tackles during the postseason including a sack of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl 58.

In nine seasons in the Red and Gold, Armstead had 302 tackles, 88 quarterback hits and 33.5 sacks. He has missed 13 games over the last two seasons over various injuries.
