California State Parks looking for snowy plover guardians

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV)- If you love animals, the California State Parks is looking to volunteers who are interested in becoming a snowy plover guardian.

State park officials said the goal of the program is to promote responsible recreation practices that protect native species.

The snowy plover is a threatened species that nests this time of year on Monterey Bay Beaches.

If you like to get involved, the first in-person training meeting is happening this Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.

A second training will be held next Friday as well. The meetings will take place at the Monterey Dunes Natural History Association.
