Victim identified in Hillcrest Car Wash shooting
HOLLISTER, Calif. (KION-TV) - UPDATE ON FEB. 12, 2024 AT 12:35 PM- On Monday afternoon, The San Benito County Sheriff's Office identified the 48-year-old man who died in a shooting on Friday afternoon.
Deputies have identified the victim as Efrain Amezcua of Hollister. Amezcua was allegedly shot and killed by 39-year-old Jose Angel Valdez after a fight took place at the Hillcrest Car Wash on Friday afternoon.
Valdez was arrested on Flynn Road and has been charged with murder according to Hollister Police.
One killed, one arrested after Hillcrest Car Wash shooting in Hollister
One person is dead after after being shot multiple times at a car wash in Hollister.
Hollister Police said they arrested 39-year-old Jose Angel Valdez on murder charges in connection to the shooting.
Hollister Police said they initially received reports of a fight that led to a shooting at the Hillcrest Car Wash along Hillcrest Road around 2:20 p.m.
When they arrived at the scene they found a 48-year-old man was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The man would later die as a result of his injuries.
Police would then speak to witnesses who gave police a description of the suspect's vehicle.
Police said this led them to a home on Mary Drive where the suspect's family said the suspect wasn't there but after speaking with him he was willing to turn himself in.
Valdez was later located on Flynn Road and was arrested without further incident.
The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
