People living in Boulder Creek struggling with power outages days after strong storm system
BOULDER CREER, Calif. (KION-TV) - While the rain is tapering off in the Santa Cruz Mountains, power is slowly coming back on for those who have been in the dark.
Emelia’s Boulder Creek business, Air and Fire, saw power restored on Wednesday afternoon. However, she says the last few days have proven to be challenging.
“Business is slow when you have no electricity and you can't really accept credit cards very easily," Emelia said. “I'm overjoyed that [power] has been returned to the downtown area. My home is still out and has been out since Sunday, as well.”
In days following Sunday’s major storm, many homes still remained in the dark as crews worked to restore power.
“It's been real brutal up here in the Santa Cruz mountains in Boulder creek," Boulder Creek resident Carlos Trevino said. "We've been out of power for four days,"
Portions of Highway 9 near Bear Creek Road were reduced to one-way traffic due to ongoing PG&E work.
Some in Boulder Creek tell KION, they want to know why it’s taken PG&E so long to restore power.
“Right now our crews are responding or going from community-to community to respond to hundreds of sites where we've received locations where our equipment was damaged," PG&E Communications Representative Stephanie Magallon said. "So and this takes time."
