Monterey man found guilty of making criminal threats, DA’s office says
MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV)- The Monterey County District Attorney's Office said that a Monterey man was found guilty of making criminal threats in October 2023.
The DA's Office confirmed to KION that 53-year-old Terric O'Connor of Monterey was found guilty of criminal threats last Friday.
According to the District Attorney's Office, Monterey Police Officers responded to a call for service at the Jack in the Box on the 800 block of Abrego Street in Monterey on Oct. 8, 2023.
When officers got to the scene, a male victim flagged them down saying that he was attacked with an axe at Dan Dahvee Park.
Investigators said that the victim ran for his life and and ran to Jack in the Box to call 911.
The District Attorney's Office said that O'Connor swung the axe and grazed the victim's shoulder. The victim had minor injuries.
The DA's office said that officers obtained a search warrant for O'Connor's tent and located an axe-head cane that matched the description that was provided by the victim.
According to deputy district attorney Althea Omdahl, O'Connor and the victim did know each other. Omdahl said that the victim did frequent the park.
The DA's Office said that the jury did not find him guilty of count 1 which is assault with a deadly weapon however he was found guilty of making criminal threats.
O'Connor is on probation for two years and must stay away from the victim from at least three years per the DA's Office.
