One person displaced and cat killed in house fire in Monterey, firefighters say

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV)- The Monterey Fire Department said that one person has been displaced and a cat was killed in a house fire on Saturday night.

Firefighters responded to a call of a duplex structure fire around 11 p.m. on the 400 block of Del Rosa Avenue.

When firefighters got to the scene, the found a working fire with heavy smoke in the living room of the structure.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the living room and kept it from spreading.

Monterey Fire said the residence sustained structural damage with an estimated loss of $400,000.

The American Red Cross did provide assistance to the displaced resident.

Monterey Fire said the cause of the fire is under investigation but firefighters say it is not considered suspicious.
