Speeding car flies off Highway 80 exit and into building, driver in stable condition

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KION-TV)- The California Highway Patrol are investigating a crash that involved speeding car that jumped an off-ramp and flew into a building on Sunday night.

Investigators said that the crash happened around 11 p.m. when a woman was driving a Toyota Corolla on westbound I-80. The driver entered the Harrison Street off-ramp at an "unsafe speed."

According to KPIX, the Toyota hit a wall on the north side of the exit and launched into the apartment building next to the ramp.

Officers said that the car descended and came to rest at the shoulder of the ramp.

People who live in the apartment buildings told KPIX that the crash felt like an earthquake. Investigators said that there was damage to the second and third floors of the building.

CHP said that the crash is still under investigation.
