Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta named among inductees for the California Hall of Fame Class of 2024

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KION-TV)- Governor Gavin Newsom announced 10 new inductees into the California Hall Fame Class of 2024 and one of the inductees has Central Coast ties.

Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta will be getting inducted into the California Hall of Fame Class of 2024.

The Monterey native served in multiple roles during his political career including serving as U.S. Secretary of Defense from 2011 to 2013 and director of CIA.

Panetta currently help runs the Panetta Institute for Public Policy with his wife Sylvia.

The other nine inductees include the following

Helene An- Master Chef

Willie Brown Jr.- Former Mayor of San Francisco and Former Speaker of the California Assembly

Vinton G. Cerf- Computer Scientist

Ava Duvernay- Academy-Award nominated director

The Go-Go's- Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees.

Thelton E. Henderson- Former U.S. Federal Judge

Los Lobos- Rock Band

Cheryl Miller- 2x NCAA Champion basketball champion with USC Trojans, Olympic Gold Medalist and broadcaster

Brenda Way- Artisitic Director for ODC School
