SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KION-TV)- It is certainly looking like Bob Melvin will be coming home.

According to Andrew Bagglery of The Athletic, the San Francisco Giants are planning to announce Melvin as the next manager of the Orange and Black.

Melvin had one year remaining on his contract was granted permission by the San Diego Padres earlier this week. Bagglery said Melvin met with top Giants officials on Monday including Buster Posey.

Melvin was a catcher for the Giants from 1986 to 1988

The 62-year-old Palo Alto native just finished his second season with the Friars as they missed the playoffs and finished with an 82-80 record.

Melvin will be returning to the Bay Area just two years after he left the Oakland A's. Melvin managed the Green and Gold from 2011 to 2021 where he led the A's to seven postseason appearances and four division titles.
