Two arrested for road rage crash that killed Carmel man on Highway 1 at Aguajito Road
MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV) UPDATE ON AUGUST 1, 2023 AT 11:00 AM: CHP said that they arrested two people weeks ago for the alleged involvement in a deadly hit-and-run crash on May 31, 2023, on Highway 1 at Aguajito Road.
CHP described the suspect vehicle at the time as a silver vehicle with major front-end damage. 62-year-old James Howard Pack, of Carmel, was killed in the crash.
CHP said Nicholas Krenke, 32, of Monterey was booked into Monterey County Jail on a felony hit-and-run charge on July 18. Jenny R. Lesch, 45, of Carmel Valley turned herself in to Monterey Police Department for multiple charges including manslaughter, hit-and-run, assault, and reckless driving on July 25.
Before the crash, CHP says Lesch’s vehicle caused Pack to lose control of his vehicle, which was then hit by a second vehicle driven by Krenke. Both Lesch and Krenke fled the scene.
CHP is saying this crash was an act of road rage.

Caltrans said that a crash on Highway 1 at Aguajito Road has traffic moving slowly both ways and drivers are being diverted onto city streets.
A crash occurred on southbound Highway 1 at Aguajito Road. CHP said that a white van was struck and rolled over. CHP described the suspect vehicle as a silver vehicle with major front-end damage.
California Highway Patrol said that CPR was performed on the scene and at least one person was taken to the hospital. That person, identified by CHP as a 62 year-old-man from Carmel, later died of her injuries.
