One woman dead in crash along Highway 152 at the Big Cut
SAN BENITO/MERCED COUNTIES, Calif. (KION-TV) -- UPDATE ON MAY 23, 2023 AT 9:57 AM- CHP Hollister-Gilroy says a San Mateo woman has died in a crash that happened on Highway 152 at the Big Cut late Monday night.
CHP said that the crash happened around 9:40 p.m. on Highway 152 west of Dinosaur Point Road.
The San Mateo woman was driving a 2008 Mazda 3 westbound on Highway 152 in the middle lane at an unknown speed.
CHP said that the Mazda veered to the left across the left hand lane and continued through a right curve in the roadway.
The Mazda struck the concrete divider and the vehicle overturned within the left hand lane.
Officers said an unknown amount of time had passed and a 2008 Mercury that was driving at an unknown rate of speed in the left hand lane crashed into the Mazda.
The San Mateo woman died from her injuries and a 10-year-old San Mateo boy who was a passenger in the Mazda suffered moderate injuries from the crash and is being treated at a local hospital.
An 82-year-old Salinas woman who was a passenger in the 2008 Mercury suffered moderate injuries and is being treated at a local hospital. The driver of the 2008 Mercury suffered minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital.
Any witnesses who were at the crash are asked to call CHP Hollister-Gilroy at 408-427-0700.

CHP-Hollister/Gilroy is at the scene of a deadly crash along Highway 152 between San Benito and Merced counties late Monday night.
Dispatch confirmed at least one person is dead but could not provide additional information.
The CHP issued a Sig Alert along westbound 152 about four miles west of the collision, meaning they intend on closing the road to traffic there.
No identifying information about the vehicles or people involved in the crash was provided either.
