Castroville man sentenced to five years in prison for selling 14-year-old girl for $12,000, DA says
CASTROVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV)- UPDATE ON MARCH 26, 2024 AT 2:11 PM- On Tuesday, The Monterey County District Attorney's Office said that a Castroville man has been sentenced to five years in prison for selling a 14-year-old girl for $12,000.
Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni said that 38-year-old Obdulio Aparicio was convicted of one count of human trafficking of a minor for commercial sex purposes, one count of child abuse and one count of misdemeanor domestic violence.
Pacioni said that these are Aparico's first convictions of any kind. Aparicio will not have a strike offense against him since his crimes took place before Senate Bill 14 became a law in Jan. 2024.
Aparicio will have to register as a sexual offender for the rest of his life per Pacioni.
In late April 2023, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office started investigating reports that Aparicio sold a 14-year-old girl to 20-year-old Javier Saavedra of Salinas.
Deputies learned that Aparicio negotiated the sale of the girl for $12,000.00. Pacioni said the girl was living with Saavedra at the time of the investigation.
Pacioni said that Aparicio had battered his spouse by pushing her down which caused a bruise and laceration to her elbow.
In October 2023, Saavedra was convicted of committing statutory rape upon the girl and oral copulation of a person under 18 years of age which are both felony offenses according to Pacioni.
Saavedera was sentenced to nine months in prison and three years of felony probation. Pacioni said Saavedra was ordered to attend a sex offender treatment program.
Deputies: Castroville man arrested for selling juvenile girl to Salinas man who raped her
A Castroville man was arrested after allegedly selling a girl to a man from Salinas who is accused of raping her.
On April 28, 2023, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office was investigating reports of child abuse on the 11000 block of Merritt Street made by North Monterey County High School officials.
Deputies arrested Obdulio Aparicio, 38, and booked him into Monterey County Jail for corporal injury on a spouse, causing great bodily harm to a child. His bail was set at $100,000.
Detectives later developed leads that suggested Aparicio had sold a minor to a man in Salinas for sexual purposes. Detectives found suspect Javier Saavedra, 20, on the 300 block of Iris Drive in Salinas with the juvenile victim.
Detectives said the minor confidential victim was sold for $12,000 to Saavedra.
Saavedra was arrested and charged with contacting a minor for a sexual offense, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor three years younger, sodomy with a person under 18 years, and Oral Copulation with a minor. His bail is set at $105,000, per deputies.
