Salinas Police issued 18 citations during DUI checkpoint on Tuesday night
SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV)- Salinas Police announced the results of their Tuesday night DUI/driver's license checkpoint.
Police said they issued 18 citations for driving without a valid license. Eight hundred seventy-nine vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and 279 were contacted by police.
There were no DUI arrests, but police said they did make several arrests Tuesday night.

Salinas Police will be conducting a DUI/driver's license checkpoint on Tuesday night.
Officers said that the checkpoint would be taking place from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. in an undisclosed location within city limits.
Checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Sergeant Albert Duran said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.
Drivers who are charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
