Seaside man who shot over 35 rounds at his brother pleads guilty

SEASIDE, Calif. (KION-TV) UPDATE Jan. 25 2024 at 9:35 a.m.- A man from Seaside who fired over 35 shots at his brother throughout Seaside has plead guilty to four strikes according to the Monterey County District Attorney's Office.

According to the DA's office, 51 year old Anthony Johnson plead guilty to attempted murder of his brother, multiple counts of Assault with a semi-automatic firearm, discharge of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a machine gun.

As part of his plea, Johnson also admitted to possessing multiple other firearms.

Johnson will be sentenced to 35 years in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on February 21, 2024.

UPDATE Nov. 30, 2022, at 3:08 p.m.- The charges against a Seaside man who shot at his brother more than 40 times have been revealed.

Anthony Johnson, 51, has been charged with premeditated attempted murder, possession of a machine gun, a felon in possession of a firearm and violating his probation, manufacturing large capacity magazines, and importing illegal firearms, according to the Monterey County Jail.

Seaside Police said they are still looking for Johnson, probably hiding from his brother. He was driving a grey Mercedez Benz when his brother shot at him and chased him in a black Nissan Altima.

Police believe his brother is just a victim at this time.

Johnson's bail is set at $1,005,000.

UPDATE Nov. 29, 2022, at 12:13 p.m.- Seaside Police announced the suspect wanted for a shooting spree chase in Seaside on Monday, where, according to police, more than 40 rounds were fired, has been identified.

Anthony Johnson, 51, a resident of Seaside, was captured near Aptos in a black Nissan Altima. He allegedly fired at an occupied grey Mercedes Benz which his brother was inside of.

Police said they arrived at Johnson's Seaside home Sunday night for a call of a peace disturbance between the two brothers. The following day Anthony fired 40 rounds into his brother's car, chasing him through several streets in Seaside.

A search warrant was served at Johnson's Seaside residence on the 1700 block of San Pablo, and a cache of guns, ammunition, and parts was found.

UPDATE 8:18 P.M. Police in Seaside have found the cars involved in what police believe may be a gang-related car chase and shooting, according to a Facebook post made at about 8:00 p.m. on Monday.

An arrest has also been made, according to police, yet the suspect has not been identified.

A Mercedes Benz captured on surveillance video at the scene was recognized after being released to the public. The person who tipped the police said they spotted the vehicle along Highway 1 going north. According to Commander Matthew Doza with the Seaside Police Department, the California Highway Patrol was notified, along with Watsonville Police. The suspected vehicle was eventually found in Aptos, where the suspect was arrested.

Doza tells KION police still have a lot of work to do, including finding the person who was targeted in Monday's shooting. They are thankful for the help of the public.

ORIGINAL STORY

Seaside Police said a person(s) in a vehicle shot at an occupied grey Mercedes Benz at least 40 times on the 1800 block of Yosemite Street Monday morning.

The suspect vehicle then drove off west down San Pablo, south on Noche Buena Street and was last seen on Broadway Street, said police.

Police said the vehcile is believed to be a black Nissan Altima with front-end damage. At least 30 shots were fired.

The intended victim fled the scene. This happened around 11:52 a.m. Seaside Police has issued a public safety warning for the community.

“We believe that the people in that vehicle are armed, obviously because we found shell casings, plus we had people calling in saying that they see somebody shooting. We don’t want anybody to get hurt, especially if someone sees the vehicle," said Commander Doza with Seaside Police. "We want them to call us, we don’t want them to approach the vehicle or challenge anybody or make contact with the occupants. We want them to call us since we’re trained to deal with those situations.”

Police added that they are investigating a "large scene." Nobody was hurt due to the shots fired incident that they could find.
