Second person dies from injuries from shooting at Gilroy City Councilmember’s home in 2021
GILROY, Calif. (KION) UPDATE JUNE 1, 2022, at 8:17 p.m.-- Gilroy Police said that a second person has died in relation to a shooting in October of 2021.
Jesse Sanchez, 19, died from his injuries sustained in the shooting on May 27, said Police. Sanchez was one of four victims during that early morning incident.
Police say this case is still under investigation.

UPDATE 11/10/21 Authorities have made another arrest in connection to the deadly shooting that happened at the home of Gilroy city councilmember Rebeca Armendariz on Oct. 30th.
According to Gilroy Police, officers with the department were assisted by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, the Santa Clara Police Department, the Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement Team, and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. The agencies served search warrants at three different locations in Gilroy related to the shooting.
Gilroy Police says they searched areas on the 9200 block of Calle Del Rey, the 8800 block of Fuchsia Court and the 7600 block of Rosanna Street.
An 18-year-old was arrested at one of those locations where a gun was reportedly found. He is charged with being a felon/prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
He has been booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.
Police did not say if the teenager arrested was a suspect in the Oct. 30th shooting or if the gun found was used during the shooting.
The 19-year-old who was previously arrested in connection to the shooting has been released after the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office decided not to charge him.
UPDATE 10/31/21 12:07 p.m. A 19-year-old Gilroy resident has been arrested in connection to the shooting that occurred at the home of Gilroy city councilmember Rebeca Armendariz Saturday.
The Gilroy Police Department confirms that a SWAT team arrested the suspect on the 7100 block of Church Street at approximately 4:15 Saturday afternoon.
The young man is accused of shooting four people at a Halloween party. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene and the other three were transported to local hospitals. Two of the transported victims sustained life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for Homicide.
ORIGINAL STORY: Gilroy Police responded to the report of a shooting on the 400 hundred block of Las Animas Avenue in Gilroy. Around 1:00 a.m Saturday prior to the officer’s arrival at least one suspect reportedly fired a gun.
Officers then determined there was a total of four shooting victims during the altercation. One male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other victims were then transported to local hospitals. Two of the victims had life-threatening injuries. The location of the incident was later determined to be the residence of Gilroy City Council member Rebeca Armendariz.
